That was fast. Four weeks after launching a trial for its 3G service, China Mobile has determined that the high-speed phone service based on the country’s homegrown 3G standard TD-SCDMA is ready for real action. Xinhua News Agency reports that China Mobile and South Korean handset maker Samsung have presented 15,000 3G phones, plus data cards and some $428,600 worth of airtime to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympics on Monday. The service goes ahead then, without the formality of 3G licenses being issued by the Chinese government.
