Amp’d Mobile’s Customer Buyout Approved By Judges; Amp’d Gets 25 Percent Stake In Prexar

By Rafat Ali - Thu 02 Aug 2007 07:49 PM PST

Some more developments in Amp’d Mobile’s bankruptcy auction: the Delaware judge has approved United Systems Access (serving under PrexarMobile brand name) purchase of the MVNO’s customers. The deal calls for United Systems to pay a combination of cash and stock in return for access to Amp’d Mobile’s remaining customers, reports AP. United Systems will offer service to Amp’d customers under its Prexar Mobile brand. Amp’d will also get a 25 percent stake in Prexar.

Amp’d will be paid according to how many of its customers switch service to the small Maine-based wireless provider, what plans the customers choose and how long they stay with the new carrier. I doubt too many, because some of them have already switched to Verizon Wireless, the network on which Amp’d used to run.

I switched to PREXAR.... Rates not as good… I had the $99/unlimited minutes package w/ Amp’d so I was spoiled with no overages ever, BUT, hey… Prexar uses Verizon’s network too… My port was up and going in less than half a day… Same Verizon network/coverage, AND: Nights and Weekends starts at SEVEN PM NOT 9Pm....

    Awesome…

Let’s see how they do… if we Ampd Mobile customers switch, then Prexar will be a big win for them and us… they will up their service options and more… you will see.
