Another Report on iPhone’s UK Sales: Slightly Short of Projections

By Rafat Ali - Fri 18 Jan 2008 06:46 PM PST

We mentioned some anecdotal evidence of slow sales of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhones in UK early this month...now some more evidence in this story from FT: O2 said shortly before the iPhone’s UK launch on November 9 that it expected handset sales of 200,000 in the first two months, but this story cites sources that the actual figure for the first eight weeks was about 190,000. Some analysts at the time said O2’s UK projections then were conservative…

The iPhone’s UK price is £269, but with the 18-month contract starting at £35 a month, it comes to a hefty £899....that of course doesn’t help in overall sales. The iPhone is also sold by Carphone Warehouse, the mobile retailer.

O2 didn’t make any comment on these figures, but told FT that iPhone was its fastest-selling handset “by a significant margin”. Price cuts coming, maybe?
