AP Launches Mobile Service

By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 05 May 2008 09:21 PM PST

Associated Press has launched its mobile site, foreshadowed a couple of weeks ago. The site is available at www.apnews.com on a handset, or via iPhone web application pages at http://www.iphone.com/webapps reports Editor and Publisher. The plan is to optimize it for other high-end handsets in the future. The service “offers a full multimedia experience, from photo galleries of sports events to spot video coverage of the presidential campaign. Users can select news from their hometown, business destination or favorite cities, share stories, photos and video with friends and rate the information they receive”. It’s ad-supported, with local ads going with local stories. This is the first effort from the company’s Digital Cooperative.
