Bango Launches “Get It On My Mobile” Button

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 15 Nov 2007 07:03 AM PST

bangobuttonBango (AIM: BGO) has launched a new service dubbed Get On My Mobile which lets people sell mobile content from their website. “Bango Buttons” can be created by visiting http://www.bango.com/button and choosing between some design and size options, and getting a piece of code to put on your website...if it’s an image Bango automatically resizes it for the different handsets. There’s also a place to manage the account. Of course, Bango lets you charge for the content if you wish—what percentage you actually get depends on how the buyer pays for it, and there’s a very interesting page here with the different rates.

From the buyers point of view they see a button on a page, and when they click on it they’re taken to a page similar to the one on the right. This band’s MySpace Page has an example, although when I tried I was told that Bango doesn’t support Opera Mini. On my N95 browser the only payment option was credit card, and the minimum payment was $2.50, any remainder is kept on the site as a credit. Other than that it was pretty seamless. This is the easiest way I’ve seen for individual people to sell mobile content—it’s simple to do, it goes straight from their web site and they can charge for it if they wish. It’s another string in the bow of small content producers.

    Hi James,
Wanted to point you to PocketFuzz (http://www.pocketfuzz.com) after reading this post. PocketFuzz allows you to embed a widget in your MySpace (or any other page) that fans can preview and then select just the part of any of your songs to download as a ringtone. Fans can also “dual download” a ringtone to their phone and a full track to their computer. It all happens within the widget so no clicking to other pages.

    Thanks!
    Danny

    Hi Danny / James,

We have definitely come across loads of compenies out there helping artists sell music, videos etc. and at Bango we have many o fthem as customers, either for our payment collection services, our analytics or our traffic generators.  Thanks for pointing out pocketfuzz.  Their current offering only works on 4 US carriers, and requires text messaging - which can be a bit clunky.  We will contact them to see if Bango Button and other Bango tech can help them expand the reach of their great technology to 20X the potential audience, and make it easier to spread their ringtones - at lower cost!

    Ray
