China Mobile To Have TD-SCDMA In 8 Cities By Years End; Olympic Services Possible

By Dianne See Morrison - Wed 14 Nov 2007 07:47 AM PST

China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou said that China Mobile would finish building its trial TD-SCDMA networks in eight cities by the end of the year. CSC Securities analyst Michael Chen said that with the networks complete, 3G services may be introduced before the 2008 Beijing Olympics which are seemingly considered the perfect testing ground for 3G services (rather than the largest world-wide sporting event which should have the services commercially available) reports Bloomberg. China sees it as a good opportunity to draw the world’s attention to TD-SCDMA, but if the attention comes for the wrong reasons it’s not going to be good for them. The Chinese government still hasn’t set a date to issue 3G licenses.
