China Unicom Subsidiary Prepares to Launch Music Video Content Services Offer

China Unicom NewSpace Co, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of China Unicom responsible for the operator’s mobile music services, has tied up with content aggregator Global Music International, to deliver music videos and ringtones via the China Unicom network. The announcement claims the services are localized and personalized, but fails to explain precisely how these features figure in the offering. There is also a reference to the relationship as one that “establishes a new digital music consumption model” – but, again, little detail to back it up. A mix of Chinese and Western content (primarily Global Music International’s music video content) will be offered via mobile channels. The company’s stock of ringtones and ringback tones will available through China Unicom directly. Press release
