San Diego-based Packetvideo has announced the acquisition of Basel, Switzerland-based SDC AG for an undisclosed amount. We noted it at the beginning of the month, and this is the official announcement. SDC has a Java music client with DRM that is deployed on 18 carriers in Europe, China, North America, Australia and India, while PacketVideo has a multimedia client that runs on Brew, Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile. SDC supports music platforms from Musiwave, WiderThan, Siemens, and TA-Telecom, and covers full track music, music videos and ringtones. It sells music via full track pay-per-download, subscription, advertising, superdistribution, try-and-buy, push-casting and personalized radio, and has deals with EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group. There’s no clear message of any integration plans.
