CTIA: Sprint/Cable Cos Launch Integrated Service Brand

By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 26 Mar 2007 05:52 PM PST

The joint venture between Sprint and some cable companies (Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Advance/Newhouse Communications) has launched Pivot, a service which integrates the offerings of the different companies. It allows customers to link their mobile phone service with their home digital phone, some high-speed internet services and digital calbe services. A plan called Pivot Plus includes voice, text, data and entertainment, and there are voice features that link the home and mobile phones. Customers on Pivot will also be able to watch live and mobile TV, access home TV listings using a programming guide like the one they use at home, check home email and voicemail from one source, access the Internet, make unlimited calls between their cable home service and mobile phones, and have the convenience of one point of contact for service and billing. I’m not sure if this adds anything new or just creates a brand for the integrated services. Pivot is currently in eight metropolitan areas (Raleigh, N.C.; Austin, Tex.; Boston; Portland, Ore.; San Diego; Phoenix; Cincinnati; and Dayton, Ohio) with plans to launch in 40 this year. (release)
Engadget has some screenshots of the service.
