Data 25 Percent Of China Mobile Revenue; Asia 46 Percent Of Windows Mobile

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 29 Nov 2007 10:36 PM PST

The Chinese mobile content market is picking up—China Mobile Board Chairman and CEO Wang Jianzhou said the mobile and internet are"destined to integrate”, and apparently China Mobile gets 25 percent of its revenue from non-voice business, including mobile newspaper, mobile search, mobile payment, and mobile tracking reports SinoCast China IT. Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is also keen on China as a growing market for Windows Mobile, and plans to open 35 new concept stores in the country next year to promote its mobile OS, Chris Sorensen, Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific, Greater China and Japan lead product manager for its mobile communications business division told ZDNet Asia. Asia (including Japan) accounts for 46 percent of Microsoft’s global mobile market, followed by the region covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa at 37 percent and the Americas trailing at 17 percent. In the year to June Microsoft sold 11 million Windows Mobile licences, double the previous year, and Sorensen expects the number to double again next year.
