Earnings: Bharti Airtel Revenue Up 58 Percent, Profit Up 98 Percent

Indian carrier Bharti Airtel has released its first quarter figures for the three months ending March 31st. Its revenue for the quarter rose 58 percent year-on-year to 53.93 billion rupees (US$1.32 billion), which took its annual revenues up to 185.2 billion rupees (US$4.52 billion), an increase of 59 percent over the previous year. Net profit for the quarter was 13.53 billion rupees (US$330 million), an increase of 98 percent year-on-year. This brings the telcos full-year profits to 42.57 billion rupees (US$1.04 billion), an increase of 89 percent over the previous year.
Bharti Airtel added 5.3 million customers in the fourth quarter, bringing the full year additions to 17.5 million new customers.
