Earnings: EA’s Mobile Revenues Up Slightly

By Rafat Ali - Sun 03 Feb 2008 08:40 PM PST

Video game maker Electronic Arts (NSDQ: ERTS) reported revenue of $1.5 billion in its critical quarter ending December 31, up 17 percent year-on-year from $1.28 billion. But the company swung to a net loss of $33 million (-$.10/share) from a profit of $160 million ($.50 per share), which it attributed to a shift in how it recognized revenue and a $78 million restructuring charge.

On the mobile side, its Q407 revenues came in at $7.08 million, slightly up from about $6.87 million in the year-ago quarter. For the year, mobile revenue were $38 million, up 9 percent due to growth in Europe. Not much from the company in terms of details... Mobile revenues for the quarter were $38 million, up 9 percent year-on-year.

Earnings release.

    This report is incorrect.

Based on looking at the press release from the EA website, their financials (12/31/07) show:

    (numbers are in millions):

    Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 Q3 YOY %
    FY07 FY07 FY08 FY08 FY08 Change
    ------- --------- --------- -------- -------- ------
    Cellular
    Handsets 35 36 33 37 38 9%

This is further validated by the fact that in their latest annual report:

Mobile — Games played on mobile phones are now a fundamental part of our business. A little over a year ago, EA acquired JAMDAT, the world’s leading developer and publisher of games for mobile phones —a strategic investment that has exceeded our expectations in fiscal 2007. Today, we are the world leader in mobile gaming with annual revenue of $140 million. We’ve integrated EA content into the JAMDAT platform and now have more than ten EA franchises available for mobile phones.
