EBay Launches Mobile Bidding Service In Europe

EBay is rolling out a mobile bidding service in the UK, France and Belgium. There are plenty of services which allow bidding on eBay auctions from your mobile, this is an effort from eBay itself, which has been in Spain since the end of last year. “The SMS re-bidding service enables users to track bids through ‘outbid’ alerts, so they can react from their mobile if they need to increase a bid” reports Brand Rupublic. The UK service will cost 12 pence (US$0.24) plus VAT per message and offered as an option when people place a bid online. It doesn’t require a download, which makes sense since it’s not a browsing service—it just reports that someone has been outbid and checks whether they want to raise their bid, and SMS is fine for that.
