The European Commission launched a public consultation on Wednesday asking for feedback on its roaming regulations, adopted in June of last year. Reuters reports, that among other issues, the EC is trying to determine whether or not to cap the cost of mobile broadband while abroad, and on SMS prices. EU telecoms boss Viviane Reding angered networks when she set a June deadline for them to reduce the cost of texting abroad, as well as data roaming. It’s alsto trying to determine if price caps put in place last year on mobile roaming while abroad should be extended beyond June 2010, when they are set to expire. As the consultation paper noted, “The fact that most operators appear to have set Eurotariffs at the maximum levels allowed under the regulation shows that there is not much competition below the levels of the cap.” (Release)
