European Commission Looks Into Antitrust Allegations Against Qualcomm
By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 01 Oct 2007 04:07 PM PST
The European Commission will look into allegations by Nokia (NYSE: NOK), Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC), Broadcom, NEC and Panasonic that Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) has “violated European Union rules by charging disproportionate and discriminatory royalties for use of its W-CDMA patents and attempting to exclude competing vendors from the market”, reports RCR News. The complaint was filed almost two years ago and may take more years to resolve (that’s beaurocracy for you). Qualcomm said it is fine with the move, saying it would “demonstrate that the complaints are without merit”. The commission has begun proceedings without expressing a view on the merits of the complaint, and may impose sanctions, settle the matter with Qualcomm or dismiss the complaint.
