Australian pay TV operator Foxtel is getting excited over mobile TV—the companies Foxtel by Mobile service runs over Telstra’s Next-G network. Last month Foxtel almost doubled the number of channels available to 33 in response to strong demand, and plans more channels including the upcoming Sky News Business which will hit mobiles at the same time as it hits cable, reports Australian IT. Foxtel chief executive Kim Williams suggested “TV through mobiles and other portable devices could become one of the pay-TV operator’s key growth platforms of the future..."I am a real believer in TV mobility products and their future,” he said”. Unsurprisingly, Williams refused to give any figures on exactly how much Foxtel was making from mobile, but apparently the service is generating mroe revenue than Foxtel expected. Subscribers pay either $12 a month for basic service or $18 a month for the full variety of channels.
