Helio Hybrid EVDO Service Dead After Six Months

By Rafat Ali - Wed 18 Apr 2007 10:50 PM PST

This is not technically news...I spoke to Helio CEO Sky Dayton in Feb, and he said they had stopped selling the service. Now Engadget Mobile reports that the existing customers will also be turned off on May 8.
The concept: Helio Hybrid combined a 3G card and a laptop’s built-in Wi-Fi with software that switched between a 3G network, private and free Wi-Fi signals and a network of commercial Wi-Fi hot spots. That it was a distraction at best for the still nascent Helio was obvious from the start.
The official closure announcement is here.
