HTC Sold 2 Million iPhone Rival Handsets

By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 21 Jan 2008 12:38 AM PST

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, which made its fortune selling Windows Mobile devices, has announced that it has sold 2 million Touch handsets, the touch-screen iPhone-resembling Windows Mobile-running device developed to compete with the iPhone. Of course, HTC has three devices in its Touch family, versus Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) single iPhone model. Still, it’s a respectable figure from a company which isn’t a top-five handset manufacturer and indicates the importance of a variety of handsets in maximising sales. Taking a tip from Apple certainly helped the company, with handset sales for 2007 increasing about 12 percent compared to 2006 to 11.8 million, and revenue growing by 12 percent as well.

HTC is really coming up with great and meaningful devices. But still Smartphones are not in reach of everybody. HTC can eran more by making devices more affordable.
