Icahn Ups Stake In Motorola To 7.6 Percent

By Dianne See Morrison - Wed 07 May 2008 05:01 AM PST

Activist investor Carl Icahn has raised his stake in Motorola (NYSE: MOT) to 7.6 percent from 6.4 percent according to and SEC filing on Wednesday, reports Reuters. Icahn and affiliates bought 172.2 million Motorola shares for a total price of $2.36 billion, including commissions. The news comes just weeks after Icahn and Motorola called a truce following a lengthy proxy battle in which Icahn wanted four of his handpicked nominees to join the board. In the end, he settled for two in return for Motorola’s promise that he would have a say in the company’s spin off of its mobile division, and its hiring of a new CEO for the unit.
