Indian Mobile TV Market To Be $360 Million This Year: Report

By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 16 Apr 2008 03:22 PM PST

The market for mobile TV in India will hit $360 million in revenue and 12 million customers according to Springboard Research—which would be impressive considering that there is currently only a limited offering from public service broadcaster Doordarshan (not counting a 2G effort by MTNL). That 12 million figure represents a penetration rate of 5-6 percent, and Springboard recommends that the service should be offered on an “on-demand” pay-per-view option that does not bind users to monthly subscriptions—although that sounds more like a mobile video service than a mobile TV service. The big point in the Money Morning article is that—if this prediction actually comes true—the Indian mobile TV market will be bigger than the US mobile TV market.
