Industry Moves: Motorola’s Head Of Mobile Stu Reed Quits

Hold that door open. Motorola’s mobile unit head Stu Reed left the company on Friday, making him the second executive in a week to exit the imploding company. On Thursday, the handset maker announced CMO Kenneth C. “Casey” Keller Jr. had quit. Still, Reed’s departure doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Last month, Reed was pushed aside when CEO Greg Brown decided to take control of the unit himself—which Reuters reports currently consumes 80 percent of his time. Motorola (NYSE: MOT) is now actively looking for a new head of the division, though analysts have warned that it will be a challenge for them to find a top candidate for the job. Reed, formerly head of Motorola’s supply chain, was in the job for less than a year, taking over last summer after former mobile head Ron Garriques quit to join Dell.
