By Staci D. Kramer - Wed 16 Jan 2008 09:44 PM PST

A batch of changes at Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) and a reminder that it started as a family company. The company has reorganized into three regions for business development while placing all of the service businesses under EVP Len Lauer. This is a crucial time as Qualcomm, enmeshed in serious patent disputes and grappling with other challenges, prepares for its MediaFlo rollout on *NG&G*. Release. Changes include:

-- Peggy Johnson moves to EVP of the Americas and India from EVP & president of Qualcomm Internet Services (QIS)/ MediaFLO Technologies (MFT).

-- JIng Wang was promoted to EVP-Asia Pacific and Middle East/Africa.

-- Andrew Gilbert was promoted to EVP and president of QIS/MFT and Qualcomm Europe. He’ll run Qualcomm Internet Services / MediaFLO Technologies from London.

-- Lauer’s organization includes MediaFLO USA, QIS/MFT, Qualcomm Enterprise Services, Qualcomm Government Technologies, Firethorn and Qualcomm MEMS Technology.

-- David Vigil, SVP-business development, joins Lauer’s group.

-- Jeff Jacobs, a brother of CEO Paul Jacobs, has been promoted to the post of CMO from EVP and president of global development; he will oversee global marketing, external communications and technology standards-related efforts. Their father Irwin founded the company and was CEO until Paul took the job in 2005.
