Industry Moves Roundup: Glu, Medio, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Charles River Ventures

By Carlo Longino - Wed 12 Dec 2007 01:00 PM PST

-- Glu: Mobile has appointed Frank Keeling as managing director of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where he’ll work in the London office and report to Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing at Glu (NSDQ: GLUU) Mobile. Keeling recently served as CEO of In-Fusio, a European-based mobile games service provider; VP of EMEA for RealNetworks, (NSDQ: RNWK) where he headed up the music, games and video divisions in EMEA; and COO of Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) Global Content Services, where he was a key member of the corporate team that developed and rolled out the mobile content and delivery platform to support the launch of Vodafone live. -- Medio: Omar Tawakol, the chief advertising officer at mobile search company Medio who led its push into mobile ads, has left the company to found a new startup, reports the Seattle P-I. The startup, called BlueKai, is described on its web site as “a stealth mode startup in Seattle pursuing a revolutionary new marketplace.” Tawakol doesn’t seem to have burned any bridges, though—Medio says it has a strategic partnership with BlueKai.

-- Warner Bros. Home Entertainment: Thomas Gewecke has been named president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution (WBDD), overseeing mobile and other digital channels, as reported over on sister site paidContent.

-- Amp’d-Highland Capital-Charles River Ventures: Jon Auerbach, the VC who led Highland Capital Partners’ investment into the failed Amp’d Mobile MVNO (recently rated the worst VC investment of all time), has left the firm and joined Charles River Ventures as general partner, VentureBeat says. Auerbach will focus on the mobile market, an area in which Charles River already has about 15 investments. He says it’s “cautiously optimistic” about the space, and sees opportunities in spectrum and mobile services.
