Despite all the complaints about the higher-than-average service plans for the iPhone that Rogers Wireless intends to charge and subsequent reports about Apple’s disappointment with the Canadian carrier, the iPhone 3G is selling quite well in Canada today, Reuters reports. Indeed, Rogers backtracked on pricing mid-week and announced a promotional price plan for data service along with the device (Release) for all customers who activate by August 31. The Reuters story mentions a consumer-oriented Web site established specifically to air grievances about Rogers’ initial pricing plans, and claims it gathered almost 63,000 signatures and complaints as of this morning. Nonetheless, the customers, who waited in line in the rain overnight in Toronto, said they’d still purchase the device and service at even higher prices. “I’ve been in Canada for two years now, and I’ve sort of gotten used to just paying more when I moved here from the U.S,” Matt Mendelow said. The 37-year-old nurse told Reuters he paid someone he found on Craiglist $198 to save his 12th spot in line while he worked a night shift.
