Island Def Jam Launches WAP Site

By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 16 Apr 2008 10:18 AM PST

The Island Def Jam music group has continued its advance into mobile content and launched a mobile portal at idjmobile.com, available to any internet-capable phone. The site will include updated content on Island Def Jam artists (it has a News & Info section as well as an artists one with separate artist sites) as well as tour dates and interactive community tools such as ontent posting, user comments, and ongoing promotions on the phone and web. In terms of revenue generation fans will be able to subscribe to IDJ Mobile Premium, which will feature exclusive mobile content from IDJ artists. The site also has advertising—currently link ads. The site is run by netomat. I’m not sure what happened to the Def Jam Mobile site launched in 2005.

At the moment Def Jam is making a serious move into mobile, launching a handset earlier this month and hiring Mark Lehmann as Web and Mobile Marketing VP last month. Last year it also launched Def Jam Radio.
