Japan To License Cellphone Experts

Japan will start licensing mobile phone “sommeliers” to help consumers through the thicket of increasingly complicated mobile functions as handsets get more and more advanced. AFP reports that the country’s communications ministry said it would support a private-sector plan in which those selling mobile phones would take an exam to become a licensed specialist that could walk consumers through the functions of their phone. The ministry singled out the risks of kids using their mobile devices to access the internet, and said it hoped new cellphone experts would be able to help parents choose and install filters to block out inappropriate sites.
