-- Napster (NSDQ: NAPS) Mobile Launches in Italy: Telecom Italia has launched Napster Mobile in Italy. The service, co-developed by Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) and Napster will give subscribers access to Napster Mobile’s catalogue of more than 5 million songs, as well as ringtones, artist images, wallpaper, and other content. The service can be downloaded to both a subscribers PC and mobile phone. Napster Mobile is linked directly to the Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson Walkman series mobile phones through its music recognition application (release).
-- Macmillan Publishing Solutions: MPS has launched The Global Reader which will give people access to books, articles, newspapers and other print content on their mobile phone. It’s based on the mobile web and can provide information about the people using it—so ad-supported content is possible. The ability to authenticate users means consumers can assemble a “library” of free and paid books, and the site has a bookmark feature. Bango (AIM: BGO) handles the billing and some other back-end features.
-- Sunrise Relaunches Music Service: Swiss number two mobile operator Sunrise has relaunched its download-to-own music service musicworld, The service, powered by 24-7 Entertainment, is an integrated internet and mobile shop, which means that the 2 million tracks available can be downloaded to both PC’s or mobiles. The music seems quite pricey though--full length tracks are available for 2.50 CHF($3.68) and albums can be purchased via PC for 19.00 CHF ($27.97) (release).
-- Pitch To Turn ITV (LSE: ITV) Kids Shows Into Mobile Content: UK television broadcaster ITV has licensed its classic kids TV shows including Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, Thunderbirds and Stingray to mobile entertainment firm Pitch Entertainment which will mobile content including wallpapers, ringtones and videos of the shows. They are also planning to produce a series of mobisodes using its licence. Mad.co.uk says the content will be used as “the main weapon to crack the US” market as the company prepares to launch its first office in the country this week.
-- Alabot and mobile-worx Launch Ad-Funded SMS Search: Artificial intelligence and natural language mobile software provider Alabot and mobile application firm mobile-worx is launching an ad-supported SMS search service in India. Intelligent SMS Search, as its being called, will let users search the directory of users (from open social networks), mobile content, local business directories, local deals, train / flight tickets, hotel deals and movie tickets for major cities in India using phrases from English, Hindi and other (as yet unspecified) languages. Contextually relevant ads will be inserted during the conversation as recommended by a bot, a self directed intelligent agent, who understands natural human language and interacts with users using non syntax based data input. Alabot and mobile-worx eventually plan to allow users to complete purchases through the service (release).
