Mobile Dating: Neu.de, The Dating Channel And Gaydate TV Launch Services

By Ingrid Lunden - Mon 10 Sep 2007 05:10 AM PST

Given the popularity of mobile messaging and online dating, it’s no surprise that mobile dating services has been a large growth area in mobile content. Today Neu.de, one of the bigger online dating sites in Germany, said it would be launching a new mobile service for its 5 million subscribers. Features will include location-based services to alert users to would-be matches in their vicinity, and anonymous voice and video calling functions. Separately, the TV channels Gaydate TV and The Dating Channel, both owned by the Euro Digital Corporation, have launched mobile video dating services. These will let users browse profiles of other users on their phones, and then record video messages in response; users will get text notifications for each new post. Initially, mobile video profiles will be cross-promoted via the two TV channels, but as Mobile Entertainment notes, eventually Euro Digital Corp. hopes that the mobile portals will operate as standalone services.

The Neu.de service will run on Mobestar’s mDate platform, which provides mobile functionality to other dating sites as well. What’s interesting is that the companies have revealed the terms of the deal—detail that usually does not get made public. Neu.de is paying Mobestar 30,000 euros ($41,000) to use the platform and will offer it either as a pay-as-you-go service for around 40 euro cents ($0.55) a pop or a subscription of around 10 euros ($14) per month. For the first three months, Mobestar will get all the revenues; then they’ll be split 50:50. Euro Digital Corp. and vendor partner D2see did not reveal the terms of their deal. Apart from the direct fees the services might bring in, it sounds like there will be a healthy stream of messaging revenue developing off the back of them.

More and more single friends feel too busy to date, then they turn to online dating. Do most singles find their match

online? Do you think it is better to go to general dating site or niche dating site? I once visite a niche dating site

tallfriends.com, it is for tall singles to date tall partner. I found that most members on that site are really seriouse on love.

Nothing better than finding friends on the move. So when Mobestar wil deliver dating sites to my mobile phone I would be very pleased. You don’t meet people at home. You meet them on the move. Imagen I step out the door of the office at the end of the day, I look on my mobile phone where a matching friend is moving (LBS), I drive to that place and we may have a really nice evening. Great idea!
