Musicians To Start Mobile Blogging

By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 16 Apr 2007 05:36 PM PST

James Blunt and Hard-Fi will start blogging on YouTube and Flickr using their mobile phones today as part of a deal between mobile video social network provider Shozu and labels like EMI and Warner Music Group. This was mooted in February when Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music Group, and the label representing James Blunt) announced it had signed on with Shozu. This artist-generated content (as some have dubbed it) is a good move for the bands, since it’s promotional and a good way to connect with fans and it’s difficult to copy it because it is updated regularly. There’s also a revenue stream, with people able to subscribe to Shozu’s Zucast service to get images and videos of selected bands pushed to their mobile phone. Other artists mentioned include Air Traffic, Gisli and The Aliens from EMI and Funeral For A Friend from Warner.
