NBC And AT&T Partner On An Exclusive Music Work-Out Mix For The Olympics

By Tricia Duryee - Mon 07 Jul 2008 02:59 PM PST

imageimageArtists such as 3 Doors Down, Army of Me, Colbie Caillat, Clique Girlz, Sheryl Crow, Flipsyde, Lady Antebellum, Mere, Nelly and Kate Voegele are putting together a compilation of songs just in time for the Olympics that will play on NBC and Telemuno during broadcasts of the games. The songs are supposed to be like a work-out mix that motivates the U.S. team to run faster, jump higher, etc. But the songs will also be for sale to consumers on AT&T’s (NYSE: T) Web site or mobile phones and at NBCOlympics.com during the month of August. There’s no word on how much the special tunes will cost, but the proceeds will go to Team USA. In addition to full tracks, AT&T users will be able to buy ringtones and ringback tones based on the songs. Other artists are expected to be announced later. This may be a great way to get people of all demographics interested in downloading music to their phones, however, it will take at least one hit among the tracks in order to really drive that kind of adoption. Of course, AT&T’s tie to the games is that they are the official sponsor, and official telecom sponsor, of the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2008 games in Beijing. Release.

Kudos to the artists who contributed to the album! This is one great way of showing support to our US athletes.
