Nokia Buys File Sharing Service Avvenu

By Dianne See Morrison - Tue 04 Dec 2007 05:50 AM PST

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is buying Palo Alto, Ca-based Avvenu, the three-year old technology provider of secure file-access-and-share services. The deal hasn’t been completed, and financial terms were not disclosed. Avvenu’s technology platform Access ‘N Share works across PC’s, mobiles, and set-top boxes and allows people to search, access and share PC files through their mobile even when their host computer is turned off, using a digital locker. Nokia plans to integrate Avvenu into its new Services & Software unit early next year. It will offer the service to operators, but its main target is mobile workers--it’s spoken of as part of Nokia’s business mobility strategy. Nokia says it hopes Avvenu will give them mobile capabilities beyond email. (via release).
