Nokia Changes Mind Following Backlash; Users Will Be Able to Transfer N-Gage Games To New Phones

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) changed its mind today, saying that users who buy a N-Gage mobile game will eventually be able to transfer them to a new phone once the capabilities are in place. On Wednesday, All About N-Gage reported that the opposite was true, and we verified the facts with Nokia. The company said piracy was a key concern, and that: “If users need to repair their device, the activation codes will be reissued. Also, if you purchase a new N-Gage compatible device, you will need to purchase your games again.” That’s pretty clear, but today, there’s a different story. A company spokesman told IDG that there was some internal miscommunication. “Internally there have been some mixed messages in this matter as well,” said Nokia’s Oskar Södergren. “We have been working on a way for this to work since the relaunch, but it is taking some time for everything to fall into place.” This sounds to me like Nokia knows it made a mistake and is now back-peddling quickly to repair its trust with customers.
