Nokia Trialling Banner Ads On Mobile Widgets App Widsets

By Dianne See Morrison - Mon 14 Apr 2008 04:37 AM PST

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is trialling ads on its WidSets application which will bolster the Nokia Media Network portfolio, reports NMA.co.uk. The handset giant has partnered up with environmental group the WWF to test a banner ad on the group’s WidSet widget. WidSets allow users direct access to online content without having to go through a mobile browser. Content is automatically refreshed each time the widget is launched. Jarmo Jokinen, director of WidSets for Nokia, said the campaign, the first for its kind for WidSets, would help them “get an idea to the number of impressions,” among other things. It also has bigger plans for advertising, such as offering more placements spots across the application, and encouraging advertisers and brands to create their own widgets. WidSets is being embedded in a number of Nokia handsets, including its forthcoming S40 series.
