Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is engaging in some PR outreach to labels via this FT story: it says its Comes With Music service, which is supposed to launch later this year, will have deals with all major music labels prior to its launch. It already has a deal with the largest label Universal Music, under which new handset users will have access to UMG’s entire back catalog for up to one year. Nokia is in talks with the other three – Sony (NYSE: SNE) BMG, EMI and Warner Music – plus about 10 independent music labels, says Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s EVP responsible for marketing.
Besides rev share with labels, Nokia hopes to cut some revenues with operators as well...Vanjoki highlighted the potential such as sales of T-shirts that feature people’s favorite artists. To beef up Nokia’s internet services strategy, Vanjoki said the company may do more acquisitions.
