PCs Pushed Aside In Japan By Mobiles, Game Consoles Etc: Report

By James Quintana Pearce - Sun 04 Nov 2007 10:17 PM PST

PC purchases in Japan is falling as people spend their money on other gadgets, including game consoles, digital cameras and mobile phones. “Overall PC shipments in Japan have fallen for five consecutive quarters, the first ever drawn-out decline in PC sales in a key market, according to IDC. The trend shows no signs of letting up: In the second quarter of 2007, desktops fell 4.8 percent and laptops 3.1 percent” reports AP. Japan’s advanced mobile market has often been put down to a lack of PCs, but that’s probably not the case. In the article the implication is not that people are leaving their PCs, but that they’re just not upgrading them.
