Publisher Houghton Mifflin Goes Mobile; CosmoGirl Concierge

By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 07 Nov 2007 01:30 AM PST

-- Book publisher Houghton Mifflin has announced plans to launch mobile products based on its books. Houghton Mifflin publishers reference, children’s and non-fiction titles, and one of the first titles to get the mobile treatment is Fast Food My Way by chef Jacques Pepin. The exact form of the content isn’t specified and I suspect it will differ based on the book, but titles such as the American Heritage Student Science Dictionary and The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy are scheduled for a mobile edition release on wireless operators in the USA, Canada and UK towards the end of 2007 reports TMCnet. Mobifusion is handling the mobile move.

--CosmoGirl is launching a shopping service with NearbyNow dubbed CG! Concierge, which lets readers check whether the item is available at their local mall in the size and color they want. It’s in the mag and online, and the mobile component lets readers send messages to NEARBY (632729) from their phones to search for CG! Concierge products. (release)
