Round-Up: IPhone Victims; ESPN In France; KDDI Widgets

By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 17 Oct 2007 04:28 AM PST

-- The iPhone has stolen customers from Palm (NSDQ: PALM) and T-Mobile, according to research by NPD, because “the iPhone bridges the gap between content-focused feature phones and productivity-focused smartphones”. Blackberry’s escaped the carnage because the iPhone doesn’t have corporate e-mail support, notes Tech.co.uk.

-- ESPN is increasing its French mobile presence, leading with the X Games by partnering with Sporever. Exactly what format of content will be offered isn’t detailed in the release.

-- KDDI has announced it will launch widgets in December: “If a widget provided by KDDI and its content partners is downloaded to a mobile phone, the widget will run and display the latest information on the Internet on the standby screen.” TechOn notes the widgets will be branded au one Gadget and there will be about 20 offered, ranging from mail, blogs and railway transfer guidance that KDDI will offer for free. Some partners will offer their own widgets, charged at 100-200 yen (US$0.85 - 1.70).
