Round Up: Kajeet’s SMS Content; Active Idle Screens; Indian Satellite Mobile TV

By James Quintana Pearce - Sun 18 Nov 2007 05:51 PM PST

-- Kid-focused MVNO kajeet has launched Feeds, an SMS content service sending messages with trivia and jokes and so on—a lot of them seem to be educational, such as Word of the Day and Animal Trivia. (release)

-- Bling Software has signed a deal with Brightstar which will see Bling’s Active-Idle-Screens embedded into handsets, which lets them set up widgets to deliver info from the web. The service can be white label and run (and charged for) by operators.

-- We’ve reported earlier on the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and its plans for a satellite-based mobile TV project now the launch date is set for 2009. (Indian Express)

-- BravoTV is trying a new mobile promotion for its Project Runway show. The Project Runway Mobile Fan Club will have the usual stuff (behind-the-scenes video, fashion tips, tune in reminders and so on) and also some location-based content in New York, teaming up with Socialight. Designers and judges from the series will mark their favorite fashion and shopping destinations to restaurants, museums, parks, tattoo parlors and their recommendations of what to order, buy, see and do in New York.

-- The Wall Street Journal has an article on companies which see opportunity in the complexity of modern smart phones. For example, LogMeIn sells software which allows IT support to remotely take control of a computer to fix any problems, and is working on a version for smart phones. SNAPin has a SelfService program, which seems to operate as a glorified FAQ.

kajeet seems to be bringing a new level of competition to the online education for kids market. Education on a cell phone… Based on the teenager addictiveness to cell phones, can you imagine how large of a potential that new market is????  I salute them.

SNAPin SelfService provides subscriber’s an interactive experience on the device to solve issues like changing their data plans, paying a bill and automatically fixing incorrect settings by pulling real-time data from the operator’s network. Not only that but SelfService also helps subscribers discover and use new services based on how they use the device.

You should take a look at the demo from the last CTIA – you’ll quickly discover SNAPin SelfService is much more than a glorified FAQ.
