Round Up: Tesco; AFP; HTC Sued

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 08 Nov 2007 07:46 PM PST

-- Tesco Mobile is planning to roll out banner advertising across its mobile WAP portal in November. The WAP page is the default WAP destination for the Tesco MVNO, and gets over 250,000 unique visitors a month—Tesco has 1.5 million mobile customers. The WAP portal allows branded microsites, with Disney, (NYSE: DIS) Sky Sports, Gameloft, (EPA: GFT) Glu (NSDQ: GLUU) and EA Games getting involved in that. During the trial of the banner ads the BBC, ITV (LSE: ITV) and EMAP were advertised.

-- Agence France-Presse will transmit video content to mobile phones via an agreement with RemoTV. The video content will include news and fashion broadcasts, and AFP will sell ads around its feeds reports Editor & Publisher.

-- HTC is getting sued by Replevix over technology which allows it to “[load] computer games on mobile phones without comprising memory”. Replevix got the technology when it bought UK company Tao in July, and later “obtained a license to use Tao’s intellectual property from another company that had purchased those rights”. The odd thing is that HTC agreed to pay more than $3.5 million for the technology in May, but the article doesn’t make it clear whether HTC is now refusing to pay or Replevix is demanding more money. A Google (NSDQ: GOOG) search for Replevix only returns results in relation to the lawsuit. (China Post)
