By Dianne See Morrison - Tue 20 May 2008 01:00 AM PST

Opera Software (OSL: OPERA), owners of the popular mobile browser Opera Mini has trawled through the user statistics of its top 10 countries by usage, and has come up with a Q1 “state of the mobile web” report, which reveals that social nets are a top destination across the world, and WAP content is declining in favor of online content.

Traffic to social networks worldwide is nearly 40 percent, while in the United States, Indonesia and South Africa, surfing to social nets makes up more than 60 percent of all of Opera Mini’s web traffic. Wap and .mobi sites now account for 23 percent of all mobile web traffic, with full web surfing totaling more than 77 percent of all traffic. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has made the jump to mobile quite successfully. In Opera Mini’s top ten countries, Google ranks in the top five in all the nations, and in 9 of the 10 countries comes in as one of the top three sites. The UK, meanwhile, really likes its email, and leads the world in visits to web-based mobile email services.
