Sony Ericsson Rolls Out Five New Handsets

By Dianne See Morrison - Tue 17 Jun 2008 02:32 AM PST

image Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) released four new phones today, though just days after Apple’s launch of its new 3G iPhone, there’s no sign of an iPhone rival in this batch. The handset maker, which has been pushed down to fifth position in global sales behind LG (SEO: 066570), has come up with two entry-level phones aimed at developing markets, as well as a gaming phone, and two new camera phones, one high-end, and one low-end:

F305: This is Sony Ericsson’s gaming phone. The slider model has built in motion sensing technology that allows users to play motion-controlled games—such as Bowling, Bass Fishing and Jockey—which are pre-loaded on the handset. There’s also one-click access to the games. SE has also tried to pack in other features, including a 2.0 megapixel camera. The phone supports EDGE, not 3G speeds (release).

C905 Cyber-shot: SE’s high-end camera phone has an 8.1 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, as well as face detection auto-focus, smart contrast and image stabilizer. It comes with a 2GB Memory Stick and a USB adaptor to allow easy transfers between the phone and PC. It is also GPS-enabled to allow geo-tagging (release).

S302 Snapshot: SE’s lower end camera phone has a 2.0 megapixel camera and is aimed at emerging markets (release).

J132: The entry level candy bar phone is a talk and text phone with FM radio and stereo hands free kit (release).

K330: Another entry level candy bar model. The camera phone also sports video capture. It can store 250 photos or 12 minutes of video footage, and includes Bluetooth. This phone also offers FM radio listening via speakerphone or stereo headset (release).
