Tune In Tomorrow To Hear About Apple’s Software Roadmap For The iPhone

By Tricia Duryee - Wed 05 Mar 2008 11:10 AM PST

I’m currently in the airport waiting to board my flight from Seattle to San Jose, where tomorrow I’ll drive to Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) Cupertino headquarters to hear details on the iPhone’s software roadmap. Speculation has been rampant on what Apple will announce and what will be discussed. Will Apple release the iPhone’s software development kit that was expected out in February? Will third-party developers be able to start writing applications for the device? Will it only discuss details of the SDK, and announce a launch date at some point in the future? What enterprise features will be released? And, will we get more details from Steve Jobs on his negative opinions about Adobe’s (NSDQ: ADBE) Flash?

We’ll find out starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow live from Apple’s Town Hall.

One of the bigger themes that I’ll be watching for is on Apple’s business model for the iPhone. How open will they be to applications: will it be truly open or act simiarly to a carrier’s walled garden? Will applications be distributed through iTunes? Will Apple take a cut of the revenue from developers? Will it share it with carriers? Will it launch a mobile version of iTunes, so users can download applications over the air and on the go, or will everything be strictly side-loaded onto the phone?

What are you dying to learn?

I want to know the same things as you want to know.
I also want to know when the SDK will be actually available, not only a Beta version but a definitive and stable one.
I want to know what will be the certification process like.
I want to know if co-marketing with Apple will be allowed.
Hopefully all of these questions will find answers tomorrow. See you there.
