UK Plans Text Quiz Code Of Practice

By James Quintana Pearce - Tue 22 May 2007 07:40 AM PST

The Mobile Entertainment Forum has drawn up a six-page framework for a code of practice for TV quiz text services in a bid to restore consumer confidence in the services, reports The Guardian. Thirty representatives from UK broadcasters, mobile operators and production companies collaborated in making the document.

Suhail Bhat, the MEF director of policy and initiatives, said that because a lot of companies could be involved in one text voting service it was difficult to identify who is responsible if something goes wrong, such as a vote being delayed. “The framework clarifies which company is responsible for each element of the process and the protocol for reporting any problems.” The framework is intended to run alongside the code of practice overseen by regulator ICSTIS, which is looking into the issue.
