Verizon Wireless Pushes The Open Mantra With Dev Conference; New VP Of Open

By Rafat Ali - Tue 22 Jan 2008 04:09 PM PST

Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ), which announced its intent to become more open in the kind of apps and handsets that runs on its network, is now doing a developer conference in New York City on March 19-20...the company has also appointed Anthony Lewis as its new VP of the Open Development initiative. Lewis was previous the president of Verizon Washington, D.C.

It is a technical/developers conference, and shows at least some good movement in the open networks debate in U.S. The conference will focus on development for new devices to run on VZW’s network. More on the conference here.
