Verizon CEO Seidenberg: Mobile Video ‘To Be A Big Deal’

By Carlo Longino - Wed 19 Dec 2007 01:04 PM PST

Ivan Seidenberg, CEO of Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Communications, the parent company of Verizon Wireless, appeared on CNBC’s Mad Money show with Jim Cramer last night, talking up the company’s prospects as a converged services provider, saying it’s had to make “a spectacular adjustment” to keep up with consumer demand. Seidenberg sees great prospects for mobile video (as one might expect, given its launch of MediaFLO services under the V Cast umbrella), saying “I think video’s going to be a big deal.” He also added that Verizon will stay out of the content production business, and leave it to Hollywood and Silicon Valley: “What we want to do is carry [content] and package it and get it to the customer as quickly as we could.”

“package it” is the key problem phrase here - users package things themselves on the Internet.  They don’t need things packaged, they just want whatever their friends tell them is cool and to not jump through hoops to get it.
