In the tiny country of New Zealand, Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) is claiming it is the largest seller of music singles there: The company’s head of music, Morgan Donoghue, said Vodafone’s sales of single tracks for December reached 106,000, or more than half of all single tracks sold in New Zealand for the month, reports Stuff.co.nz. That is of course the ones legally bought...the operator offers a dual-download service at NZ$1.99 for a single track. Meanwhile, Vodafone’s album sales are in the hundreds per month, Donoghue said. This is data from one operator, and other local music bodies are not ratifying these numbers, the story says, so take this for what it is.
