Yahoo Lauches Mobile Version Of Videocast In Japan

By Ingrid Lunden - Thu 25 Oct 2007 03:18 AM PST

On the heels of news that Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) is planning to extend its mobile operations across Asia, some news from Japan. The Internet portal is launching a mobile version of its Videocast video-sharing service. Currently both Videocast and the mobile version are available only in Japan, writes Tech.co.uk. Unlike the mobile edition of YouTube, which only allows people to see selected videos rather than access the whole database of YouTube footage, Videocast apparently treats PC and mobile access equally. Yahoo already has a presence in Japan with its broadband JV with Softbank. The latter has also been storming the mobile market with cut-price services to boost subscriptions. In August, Softbank Mobile showed it was interested in pushing more social networking, putting in a link at the top level of its Yahoo mobile portal to connect to four social media sites popular in Japan: MySpace Mobile, Mixi Mobile, GREE and Avex. It also operates its own social media site called S!Town.
