AG Mobile, the wireless division (under AG Interactive) of greetings card company American Greetings and Hip Hop label Def Jam Enterprises are launching several new wireless services under the name Def Jam Mobile, according to Friday’s New York Post..."In addition to hip-hop ring tones, the article states, Def Jam Mobile will also offer “sportz tonez,” which will allow sports fans to hear the sounds of their favorite games when their cell phone rings...The company has also signed licensing deals with various sports stars, including the Knicks’ Stephon Marbury, the Red Sox’ David Ortiz, the Dallas Cowboys’ Roy Williams and the Minnesota Twins’ Torii Hunter, the paper said.”
The site also offers access to “Def Jam Mobile 411”, described as “the industry’s first Hip Hop mobile news service with four channels of information services ready to inform, educate and entertain you”. The service includes exclusive offerings from the leading source of industry news: AllHipHop.com, Russell Simmons’ Hip Hop Laws of Success, Reverend Runs’ (Run DMC) Daily Affirmations, and Simmons/Lathan’s History Makers.
Rafat: This is the formal launch of Def Jam’s mobile division...it has been working with AGMobile for more than a year now. AG and DJ have also signed more than 50 celebrities to produce original mobile content ranging from Method Man and George Clinton to hip-hop rapper Chingy, MTV’s LaLa and model Melyssa Ford, according to the companies.
AGmobile has about 150 employees worldwide and has accelerated to profitability in less than a year since its inception, according to the company.
