By Rafat Ali - Wed 10 May 2006 05:06 PM PST

NTT DoCoMo plans to launch a music download service as early as June to compete with rival KDDI’s popular version, the Nihon Keizai business daily reported. The paper said DoCoMo will offer thousands of songs for about 300 yen ($2.70) each, similar to the price offered by KDDI’s “au” mobile unit.
KDDI’s mobile users have downloaded a total of 40 million songs since the service started in late 2004, the paper said.
