European Broadcasters Mobile Moves

By James Quintana Pearce - Tue 05 Sep 2006 01:10 PM PST

Swedish company Zodiac Television has launched a mobile content unit, which has so far done a 3G test with Telenor in Sweden and is also launching a mobile TV channel with the Swedish company Kamera.
Meanwhile, UK’s Channel 4 is expanding its mobile offering. It was one of the first broadcasters to go into mobile in a big way and is trying a lot of new stuff...now it has signed a licensing deal with Volantis to sell “unique rich media such as wallpapers, ring-tones, audio, video and games”. The idea is to gain more control over the development of content ad the flexibility to change the service.
